Welcome to the website of the Castles of Belgium.

We have recorded more than 400 Belgian castles, from the 400 castles described with talent by Philippe Farcy since 2002 in his four books «100 Châteaux de Belgique, connus et méconnus» published by Editions Aparté, and in his weekly Friday rubriques in daily Belgian La Libre Belgique. Other sources have been consulted.

The castles are recorded by provinces and separately for Brussels: a search tool allows you to find easily the name of the castle, of the owners, of the town or village (commune in French, gemeente in Dutch) before and after the merger of these localities decided in 1975, following the French, Dutch, German or English spelling wherever appropriate.

User's Guide

This website gives you the possibility to find out more than 600 castles in Belgium, from the four books “100 châteaux” of Philippe Farcy at Editions Aparté. The content includes references to the books of Philippe Farcy.

The castles are ranked by their current name. They are also indexed according to the official name of the current locality: if the locality belongs to a larger local entity, especially since the merger of the localities in the 1970s, the larger one is also indicated. A place name that does not correspond to an official locality has also been mentioned, whenever appropriate and without postal code.
The name of the castle has been provided in French, in Dutch and will be progressively added in English.
The website of the castle has been added only at the express demand of the owner or tenant.
The date of the last update may be found on the top right.

The search has been facilitated by:
- an advanced search vehicle working on key words such as castle name, locality name (current or former), place name if different from the locality name, larger locality name, name of the owners, authors and other persons mentioned, etc;
- the Index of the Castles by Province;
- the Index of the People, with the past or present owners, the architects, the authors and other persons progressively mentioned.
